Get Your Kids On Veges Early!
We often hear about ‘treat’ foods and are reminded that we should not eat too many of them. But do you know what core foods are?
Core foods are the basic foods from the five food groups:
- grains and cereals
- vegetables and legumes
- dairy; and
- meat, fish, chicken, eggs and nuts.
It is important to eat a wide variety of nutritious food from these food groups every day, as well as drinking plenty of water.
And this is important for our kids too. The sooner you can get them to try lots of different vegetables, the more likely they are to eat them when they are older.
One of Nestlé’s key nutrition goals is to help consumers to eat their core foods every day – whether it be milk with MILO or a vege-packed stir-fry with MAGGI.
To help educate children on the importance of eating well, Nestlé, AUT Millennium and the NZ Nutrition Foundation have developed a resource Be Healthy Be Active for children ages 10-13 years. It contains a number of videos, activities and on-line journal to help to educate our children in a fun, informative way.
